Mincov Law Corporation’s “Shining Star” Contest
Is Your Kid a Star? Let Them Shine and Win!
This contest is about letting the world witness what makes your child special. It can be anything that showcases their abilities, hard work or determination.
They can sing, play musical instruments, dance, read, act, do sports, or whatever else that they (or you as their parents) consider their important achievements.
This is not an “everybody-gets-a-trophy” exercise.
One of the reasons I am so passionate about intellectual property is my deep admiration for amazing creative talents of other people. Without them life just wouldn’t be as enjoyable. Can you imagine life without good music, movies, books, plays or sporting events?
I’m excited to announce that Mincov Law Corporation is launching its first “Shining Star” contest. I hope that your participation will make it as grand as I envision it could be.
So, the rules of the contest in plain English (full version in legalese):
Participants:
Open to all children from 4 to 14 years old, currently living in British Columbia.
Participants must be represented by their parents, guardians or other legal representatives. Despite my profound pride of my daughters' achievements, they are not eligible to participate in the contest.
No purchase necessary. You or your family don't have to be the client of Mincov Law Corporation to participate.
How to Participate?
In order to participate, you must upload a video demonstrating your child’s awesome abilities to YouTube. Participants may make as many entries as they like.
The video must be made specifically for the contest. To ensure this requirement, each video must start with your child stating to the camera:
(1) his or her name;
(2) his or her age;
(3) the following words: “This is my submission for the Mincov Law Corporation ‘Shining Star’ contest”.
Don’t worry about creating a professional looking video. A cell-phone video will do just fine if that’s what you have.
Below is a sample of a non-participating video of my daughter showing her karate skills. More are available here.
All participating videos will be featured in the blog under the #ShiningStar tag and at http://mincovlaw.com/contest1/entries. Feel free to leave your comments.
You will also need to fill a form, stating the name and the age of your child, including the URL of the uploaded YouTube video and stating the desired prize.
Dates
The Contest starts on March 1, 2012 at 12:01 a.m. Vancouver time and closes on April 30, 2012 at 11:59 Vancouver time.
The winner will be announced no later than on May 7, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Vancouver time.
How is the Winner Determined?
Depending on the number and the quality of submissions, the winner will be determined in one of the following two ways:
(1) I, Andrei Mincov, will select the winner based on my entirely subjective point of view; or
(2) In my discretion, I may choose up to 5 finalists and allow the winner to be selected based on the number of views of the finalists' videos.
Currently, my plan is to only have one winner. If the contest draws substantial attention and there are several great submissions, I will consider expanding the number of winners to 3.
Beyond that, the only gratification of those children whose entries do not win will be the participation in the contest itself and exposure of their talent and achievements on the web.
What is the Prize?
We want to encourage your child to further develop their talents. The winner will receive our assistance is further pursuing their dreams. Whether this is music lessons, sports or acting classes. Below we’ve shared some ideas, or you can request a custom prize of about the same value.
